Salford Lads Club grant funding

It was fantastic to see Salford Lads Club awarded £438,000 in grant funding from Historic England, following support for their application from Salford Council’s Culture and Heritage colleagues. The funds will be used for vital repairs to protect and preserve the building.

Salford Lads is a real institution, having been at the heart of our city for more than 120 years, and has helped guide and support tens of thousands of young people during that time. We are extremely lucky to have the club based in this great city, and I look forward to the next successful chapter in its history.

Women’s Rugby World Cup

I was incredibly proud to attend the Women’s Rugby World Cup matches held at our very own publicly-owned Salford Community Stadium.

Salford Labour committed to delivering a Rugby Strategy for the entire city last year, and as part of this work we will be collaborating with the RFU, the RFL, and professional and grassroots clubs across our city to make sure that hosting this World Cup has lasting benefits for our residents and communities for years to come.

VJ Day

On the 15th August we held a special commemorative service in Salford for the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day, which marks the day Japan surrendered to the Allied forces, bringing the Second World War to an end.

My thanks to all the veterans, residents & partners who joined us to remember our armed forces personnel who sacrificed so much so that others could live in peace.

Salford Youth Pride

It was a privilege to join young people from our city today to celebrate Salford Youth Pride on a glorious day earlier this month.

As a proud member of the LGBT+ community, its always really positive to be involved in such events, and to appreciate our wonderfully welcoming, diverse, inclusive city.

Talk About It Mate

I joined Talk About It Mate at Eccles Gateway for one of their peer support group sessions. It was incredibly heartwarming to meet the group members and join their discussions. Talk About It Mate do such good work supporting residents mental and physical health, and providing a comfortable, welcoming community.

Art with Heart

I joined local families at the amazing Art with Heart event at Ordsall Hall, where local artists gave residents the chance to take part in different creative activities, including writing messages for our Centenary Celebration Book which will go on display in 2026.

We’ll be organising a significant programme of events marking the centenary of Salford becoming a city next year, so watch this space!

Weaste Cleanup and Family community day

It was great to join Salford Labour colleagues in Weaste & Seedley recently. We spent the morning clearing and de-weeding the alleyway between Barff & Kennedy Rd. My thanks to all the councillors and Labour activists who pitched in to make this a success.

We also joined residents at the Family Fun & Community Day in Weaste that afternoon – such a wonderful event and a chance for the local community to come together.

Ordsall campaigning

I joined local councillors and Labour Group colleagues to speak to residents in Ordsall ward. Its always good to hear about the matters that residents are most passionate about, and pick up some important casework.

Little Hulton

At the start of the month Salford Labour Group was out in Little Hulton in force, speaking to residents and picking up casework.

It was great to see the impressive public realm improvements around Little Hulton’s District Centre, thanks to great work between local councillors and For Housing.
